I do IT for a living so I'm not clueless, I can only imagine how the experience would be with someone not as familiar with computers. It's not about the framerate nor resolution or whatever, the game simply doesn't work. It's annoying and frustrating to spend even a fraction of that time troubleshooting to launch a game.
I failed to do the proper research before and got burned. I wanted to post this so if you feel tempted to get this game at a very low price (like myself) you can choose to knowing the port is pretty bad. Now there is no guarantee this will work and that the game will work after re-downloading. I guess it was a connectivity issue with the Windows servers.
By the way, I didn't have any updates pending so that wasn't stopping me from running or downloading the game. The download shows an error message which I troubleshooted as well and realized that Windows update wasn't working since January 29th (Microsoft forums showed that people around the world were experiencing the update issues).įinally the Windows update is resolved by changing the DNS entries of my connection to Google's. It appears that game downloading is attached to the Windows Update process, not sure how related they are but basically if you can't update Windows you can't download anything from the store. This time, the download is failing for some reason so I start troubleshooting that. I run through all the troubleshooting I could think of and decide to uninstall the game and re download it. While researching it I discover that the port was not very well made and many people have had issues. I try a few more times with the same result and start the troubleshooting process. I haven't dealt with CTD's for a while, can't even remember what was the last game that failed like that. The game starts loading and then crashes to desktop. The title screen comes in and invites me to play "A" to continue.
When it finally finished installing, I launched the game but didn't get to play it (I was too busy with AC7), just got to the title screen and left it.Ī few days later I decide to launch it and play it for the first time. It's a 131 GB download from the Windows Store so I had to wait for a day to play it. At a $10 USD price I didn't think much about getting it despite not playing any of the series since Gears of War 2. Recently Gears of War 4 was on sale for PC on the Windows store.
